Biog The Hi and Lo are two musicians and a boot full of instruments. They play stripped down original roots music. Since making their first appearance in 2008 playing Bob Dylan songs in the rain the duo have found themselves playing venues as prestigious as The Sage in Gateshead and have shared stages with the likes of Roseanne Cash, Pete Molinari and Justin Townes Earle. In 2010 they were approached by Clubhouse Records to submit a track for the label’s first release – a compilation of UK Americana entitled Divided by a common language. The album went on to find airplay across the BBC - being championed by the legendary ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris on Radio 2, and garnered excellent reviews in the national press. Early this year the label approached The Hi and Lo for a second time – offering to release their debut album as a digital download. In May Maverick Magazine cited the album as ‘one of the finest works of British Americana in the last couple of years’ and stated that The Hi and Lo are ‘now one of the UK’s premier roots acts’. The duo will be working hard this year to support the album and to finish work on their second offering. Alongside all of this The Hi and Lo continue to promote their ‘Sunday Saloon’ shows – a sporadic roots music revue that attracts touring international artists and is becoming widely regarded as one of the best value, multi-artist bills anywhere in the UK. Their forthcoming show on September 25th sees the duo host Willy Vlautin from Richmond Fontaine. Willy will perform both spoken word and solo acoustic material as well as sets from The Hi and Lo themselves and further acts still to be announced. ♦ The Hi and Lo are: Nick Bott – Vocals, drums ,banjo, acoustic & electric guitars, harmonica Paul McClure – Vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, mandolin, harmonica |
